F1 Insider: Canadian Grand Prix betting tips, odds and start times

Our F1 Insider is backing Lewis Hamilton to be the fastest qualifier at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen to finish on the podium at 7/4

Verstappen's team-mate Daniel Ricciardo took the honours and the plaudits at the Monaco GP last month but the Australian will start halfway down the grid in Montreal on Sunday after declaring an unscheduled engine component change. This hands Verstappen a perfect opportunity to spearhead the Red Bull charge with a more powerful specification engine than has been seen in the opening half-dozen events. The extra grunt might help the 20-year-old vault onto the first two rows and from there his car's benign tyre wear and inherent raceability should allow him to challenge the Mercedes and Ferrari drivers.

Lewis Hamilton to qualify fastest at 13/8

Hamilton's record around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is extraordinary - six pole positions and six wins from 10 races (including the last three in both cases). His skill in threading his car between the walls on the island circuit has been apparent ever since he took his first career pole and win at this track in 2007. As with the Melbourne street circuit, Hamilton's influence over the car's laptime tends to be worth around a quarter of a second, which should see the four-time champion fend off challenges from Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and from his Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas on Saturday afternoon.
