Burnley v West Ham United: Our prediction

Nick Hext writes... It would seem somewhat odd if I bucked one of our more successful tactics in this season’s Premier League tips on the final day of the season so I’m getting with Burnley to win at home.

The Clarets end a successful season against West Ham at Turf Moor and they just have to be backed at an inviting odds-against quote, as has been the case so often during the campaign.

Burnley have stuttered a little bit over the last few weeks but the home crowd on Sunday are sure to be as supportive as anywhere in appreciation of staying in the top flight.

Sean Dyche’s men have won nine of their 12 matches against sides from outside the top six this term and that fantastic record is the reason they’ve stayed up without more than a few glances over their shoulder during the run-in.

This will probably end up being star defender Michael Keane’s final game for the Clarets - money is set to talk with the division’s top sides sniffing a deal - but the building blocks are in place to push on a little next season providing Dyche remains in situ and doesn’t stray too far from his masterplan to date.

Slaven Bilic wishes he had the unwavering support that Dyche enjoys in Lancashire.

Bilic could well be on his way out of West Ham in the summer after a campaign of few highs, although the 1-0 win at home to Tottenham a few weeks ago was a hugely impressive effort and one which effectively ended the title race.

I’d give Bilic the time to get things right as there were always going to be problems during the debut season at the London Stadium but the Hammers hierarchy probably won’t be so forgiving.

West Ham had only won one of their 13 matches prior to shocking Spurs and they were abysmal when losing 4-0 at home to Liverpool last weekend.

There just isn’t much to like about the injury-hit Hammers’ chances so it just has to be Burnley at 7/5 for a home win against a side from outside the top six.

Prediction: Burnley 2-0 West Ham United

Burnley v West Ham United: Team news

Michael Keane could return for Burnley's final Premier League game of the season against West Ham at Turf Moor.

The England defender, who has been linked with a big-money move away from the club, has returned to training after missing the last two games with a knock.

But Clarets boss Sean Dyche is set to be without Ben Mee, who is still struggling to shake off a shin problem.

Winston Reid will miss West Ham's final Premier League game of the season against Burnley.

The New Zealand international has undergone season-ending surgery on a chronic knee injury which he has played with for the past few weeks. Manager Slaven Bilic confirmed that Reid will be sidelined for up to 10 weeks as he begins his rehabilitation, with youngster Declan Rice likely to deputise.

Hammers skipper Mark Noble has also had surgery on an abdominal complaint and will miss Sunday's clash at Turf Moor. Cheikhou Kouyate (wrist), Andy Carroll (groin), Michail Antonio (hamstring), Pedro Obiang (ankle), Diafra Sakho (back), Angelo Ogbonna (knee) and Arthur Masuaku (foot) are all set to miss out.

Burnley (from): Heaton, Robinson, Pope, Lowton, Keane, Long, Ward, Darikwa, Tarkowski, Flanagan, Defour, Boyd, Hendrick, Westwood, Arfield, Gudmundsson, Vokes, Gray, Agyei, Barnes.

West Ham (from): Adrian, Randolph, Byram, Fonte, Collins, Cresswell, Fernandes, Nordtveit, Rice, Makasi, Snodgrass, Samuelsen, Feghouli, Lanzini, Ayew, Fletcher, Calleri, Holland.

Burnley v West Ham United: Manager quotes

Sean Dyche (Burnley)

On summer transfer plans: "We've added to the squad but we still need to look at the market again - we want to keep upgrading not just for for the quality, but as an in-house challenge to the players.

"It's always a good stimulus when they see players coming in and they have to fight for their own shirt, so we've got to add more.

"We're well aware of the future and we know we've got to continue to develop as sa team and add to what we're doing. Whatever way it went this year, the one thing we've had to do has been done, and that was to stay in the division."

On Burnley's season: "It has proved to be a good season - a good season but a tough season. You can't take any shortcuts in the Premier League and we've deserved everything we've got.

"It's not just about the money, it's about us finishing as high up the Premier League table as we can and it's a big challenge.

"We've only been in the bottom three once and that was after the first weekend of the season. Really we've tended to look up all the time so it would be great to finish with a win and see how the table ends up."

Slaven Bilic (West Ham United)

On potential summer signings: "We don't need squad players.

"Take our last game against Liverpool. We were without eight players but still had a decent team so that shows that squad-wise, with the quantity of the players, we are okay. We would like to improve the quality in certain positions but I don't want to talk about names now.

"But hopefully we are going to be successful in finishing those transfers. Most of the players are linked with West Ham, the big majority of those are rumours, there's no truth in them."

On Sir Trevor Brooking backing the possible signing of Pablo Zabaleta: "We have leaders on our team. We have good vocal leaders on our team and we also have a good core of British players who are leaders plus some foreigners who are skippers in their teams.

"They are also the reason why we made it in very difficult times. Every time that was difficult for us and we needed to show that character before a game, we did it.

"Starting with Mark Noble of course who is a great captain, (James) Collins, (Winston) Reid, (Andy) Carroll when he was there. Players like (Jose) Fonte who was captain of Southampton long enough in the Premier League, so we are good in that."
