Match report

Andrew Tye took 3-12 to skittle Royal Challengers Bangalore for 134 before Aaron Finch smashed 72 off 34 balls to fire Gujarat Lions to an emphatic seven-wicket win in the IPL.

Put into bat by the Lions at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was another woeful batting display by RCB following on from their IPL-record 49 all out against Kolkata Knight Riders - big-hitters Chris Gayle (8), captain Virat Kohli (10) and AB de Villiers (5) again misfiring.

It is only the first time in their history that RCB have been bowled out in consecutive innings', with their struggles on this occasion largely due to the brilliance of Tye.

The Australian seamer took a hat-trick earlier in the tournament, on debut against Rising Pune Supergiant, and he was close to another after removing Gayle and Travis Head - to an absolute beauty that reared up off a length - off consecutive balls.

In reply, Gujarat lost openers Ishan Kishan (16) and Brendon McCullum (3) cheaply to slip to 23-2, but then Finch fired five boundaries and six big sixes in his impressive knock to see his side to victory in 13.5 overs.

There were no clues to RCB's eventual struggles early on in their innings, as Kohli struck Basil Thampi for a spectacular six in the second over.

But the RCB skipper picked out short fine-leg in Thampi's next, while Tye's double-strike a mere ball later had the home side again rattled.

Kedar Jadhav (31 off 18 balls) impressed, firing away three consecutive fours off Thampi's third, and slog-sweeping Ankit Soni for six, but just as RCB were rebuilding he and De Villiers fell in consecutive overs - the latter involved in a bizarre run-out.

Pawan Negi (32 off 19) seemed to have rescued the innings with his useful cameo but, similarly to Jadhav, just when he was getting going - firing Ankit Soni for two sixes - he departed soon after, exposing the RCB tail.

Tye took another, while two wickets fell in James Faulkner's final over - No 11 Yuzvendra Chahal run out off the last ball of the innings.

Gujarat swiftly set about their target with Kishan firing away two fours in Samuel Badree's first over, but the legspinner returned well to trap the opener in his next over.

Badree (2-29) then had McCullum caught in the deep in his third to give further hope to RCB's cause. Hope that soon evaporated with two sweetly-struck Finch sixes in the same over.

Finch continued to decimate the rest of the RCB attack on his way to a 22-ball half century - the fastest in Gujarat franchise history - while skipper Suresh Raina's unbeaten 34 off 30 deliveries guided his side to victory, earning himself the orange cap as tournament leading run-scorer in the process.

The win is only Gujarat's third in eight games, but it at least lifts them into sIxth place in the table, above RCB, who slip to seventh after their sixth defeat in nine.
