Discover Sporting Life Plus BenefitsThe 1m5f handicap at Hamilton on Sunday looks like a solid piece of form. It was won by Forza Orta, who was able to run off the same mark as when a promising third in a strong race at Thirsk, while the runner-up, Tribal Art, arrived in decent nick and seemed to appreciate the switch to front-running tactics and having more use made of him.
The third, Heights of Abraham, didn't threaten to overhaul the first pair but he shaped nicely, doing some good work at the finish.
The way he stuck to his task in the closing stages suggests this race didn't get to the bottom of him, and he remains unexposed at trips around a mile and a half or further.

Discover Sporting Life Plus BenefitsAstro King was only ninth after being sent off favourite for the Thirsk Hunt Cup - a race he finished third in off a 7 lb lower mark last season - but he probably would have made the frame again had he not been badly hampered inside the final half-furlong.
Astro King was held up in a race not run at a strong gallop, but he was sticking to his task well until finding himself short of room close home.
That effort should have teed him up nicely for the Hunt Cup, a race he finished second in last season when beaten only by the progressive Real World, a subsequent Group 2 winner.
He should get the strong gallop he wants at Royal Ascot.

Discover Sporting Life Plus BenefitsThere were some nice pedigrees on show in this fillies' maiden and the winner looked above average as she quickened clear coming out of the Dip.
However, the Andrew Balding-trained third, Chasseral, caught the eye and is a horse to be interested in. She was strong in the market and broke smartly, but she failed to settle in the first half of the race, and was unable to find that extra gear in the closing stages.
She showed plenty of ability, though, and represents a yard whose juveniles invariably come on for their first run. She is bred to be smart - the first foal out of a listed winner who stayed a mile and a quarter - and she looks well up to winning a similar event next time, while she also has the potential to make her mark at a higher level when the time comes.

Discover Sporting Life Plus BenefitsThis was a fairly useful handicap in which Covert Mission made virtually all to gain his third success of the calendar year, with the winning rider, Benoit de la Sayette, once again looking very good value for his 7-lb claim.
However, perhaps the horse to take out of the race was the runner-up Prince Rock, who did very well under the circumstances to be beaten just a head after conceding first run to the winner. He also met trouble on the home turn, but for which there must be a good chance he would have won.
Prince Rock has been a model of consistency this year, finishing in the first three in all but one of his starts. He can't go up much in the weights for this luckless run and it's surely just a matter of time before he gets back to winning ways.

Discover Sporting Life Plus BenefitsThis looked an open enough handicap and a well-treated sort stormed to success, but the most notable runner in behind was most definitely Hathlool.
He was strong enough in the market beforehand and was held up travelling nicely in rear, the pace looking a fair one and he looked poised to strike when asked.
Hathlool endured a troubled passage inside the final two furlongs, though, asked to pick his way through but having the door shut in his face on more than one occasion. He was looked after once his chance had gone, but he finished with running left, and looks ahead of his mark.
He appeared to appreciate the return to a mile and it will be interesting if he is turned out at Beverley on Monday where he is entered in a handicap over the same distance. Hathlool didn't really have a race here and is one to be interested in.

Discover Sporting Life Plus BenefitsThe two highest achievers among the handful with experience dominated on the stand rail, but Pure Angel was a big eye-catcher further back and is a filly to be positive about.
She was well backed on her debut, but lost her race at the start, very slowly away and soon detached. She ran green but managed to catch up with the pack, moving through the field around half way and staying on well without being given a hard time.
Pure Angel is the type to improve significantly for this initial experience and could well be above-average, so is definitely one to look out for next time wherever she turns up.

Discover Sporting Life Plus BenefitsThe market didn't speak in Timbukone's favour at all but despite drifting in the betting Keith Dalgleish's three-year-old ran a race full of promise when beaten just three-quarters of a length by Ed Dunlop's Tadita Twitch.
The runner-up was returning from a long layoff, last seen finishing second at Musselburgh at the end of July 2021, and Calum Rodriguez was happy to take a lead and allow his mount to settle in fourth on the inside.
He travelled kindly alongside the eventual winner, who was able to just get first run on the second given he was positioned a little wider and not directly behind the front pair.
Timbukone responded for pressure once getting into the clear in the last furlong and a half and although unable to overhaul the top-weight, he looks one to be with next time following a run which could bring him on appreciably fitness-wise.
