SHARK TWO ONE gave a very clear indication that he was back in good form when beaten three-quarters of a length by a red-hot rival (who was completing a hat-trick) over six furlongs here earlier in the month and, although raised a couple of pounds for his troubles, he'll appreciate going back up to seven furlongs this time. The son of Adaay - rated in the mid-90s at one stage - is perfectly happy with cut in the ground too so he rates a solid selection.
Some interesting handicap newcomers in here but SHADOWOFYOURSMILE has a good pedigree and Charlie Fellowes trained the half-brother Grand Alliance, who won on handicap debut as a three-year-old for the same owners. This daughter of Gleneagles improved for the move up to 12 furlongs in a Doncaster maiden last month, her first run since January, and promises to be well suited by this even greater test of stamina.
DAISY ROOTS is building quite a consistent profile so far this season and just looked to bump into one when second to Conquest Of Power at Lingfield last time. The winner has gone in again since under a 5lb penalty but Daisy Roots gets another chance off the same mark and she won't mind odd rain shower if it materialises down south.
SEE YOU TONIGHT made no impact on turf debut at Nottingham recently but I think it's a run we can scrap as the winner made all and See You Tonight just didn't settle at the back of the field early on. She'll be happier back on an all-weather surface here and an opening mark of 74 doesn't look harsh at all given her Kempton maiden win from February has worked out reasonably well.
FINEST VIEW has clearly enjoyed returning to her former yard after winning at Stratford on her second run back with Alan King just last month. She got the job done by a narrow margin there and has a line more on her plate in this line-up but she's only gone up 2lb to a mark of 113 and has won handicaps off marks in the 120s inside the past two years so she should remain seriously competitive at this level.
It’s Sir Mark Prescott’s time of year and back up in trip SOLID SILVER can land the Fixing Point, Roofing Supply Shop Handicap over 1m5f at Hamilton. Prescott unsurprisingly has a terrific strike-rate up at Hamilton and it’s a massive 38.71% in the months of May and June since 1997, so this mare makes plenty of appeal over the furthest she has ever been on the Flat. Thrice-raced in bumpers, she has earnt a mark of 70 after racing over 10 furlongs twice but more is expected from her over this distance.
The softer ground can help JUNIPER regain the winning thread in the Newton Abbot Racecourse Conference Centre Handicap Chase. The 10-year-old mare won on soft ground at Taunton and Wincanton earlier this year before she was outpaced at a crucial stage at Cheltenham on better ground in April last time out.
ZOZIMUS is knocking on the door and looks to have been found a good opportunity to finally land a second career win in the Dr Eddie Moll Handicap at Beverley. The six-year-old is 1 from 35 but he’s on a winning mark now and was unlucky not to double his win tally in a better race at Newmarket last time where he was mugged on the line by Great Blasket. Danny Tudhope will likely have to deliver him late in this, but he’s just the man for the job around Beverley.
A bit of time and a gelding operation could be just what the doctor ordered for THUNDER FLOW ahead of the Try Unibet’s Improved Bet Builder Handicap at Kempton. William Haggas’ horse fell short in two handicaps earlier this year after being keen and hanging, but he’ll likely be more straightforward after being gelded. He showed promise over six furlongs at Wolverhampton and he’s worth another chance from a mark of 65.
The in-form Sam England takes another three to Cartmel on Wednesday night and all need considering, but her KILTA looks the one to be on in the Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase over 2m5f at 8.20. This horse won a race over hurdles at two miles, but he’s bred for a fence and a trip and it’s telling England has pinpointed this track, where she does so well with her runners, for his chasing debut.
