IRISH NECTAR – 1.50 Newmarket
He was progressing nicely in the autumn and IRISH NECTAR could well make a winning return.
He signed off with a length-and-a-quarter defeat of Curious Rover in a York nursery and while up seven pounds and on a livelier surface, he’ll relish going up to six furlongs and has a handy low draw. He has form on the ground too.
JUNIPER – 2.05 Cheltenham
She gave My Silver Lining an almighty scare in this race last year and JUNIPER can go one place better this time around.
Harry Cobden’s mount arrives on a hat-trick after wins at Taunton and Wincanton and while up seven pounds and 12 higher than in this contest 12 months ago, she’s right at the top of her game and will take some pegging back.
COTTIE – 2.40 Cheltenham
She’s yet to fire for the Skelton team but COTTIE’s handicap mark is in freefall and a revival might be imminent.
She’s now only four above the rating from which she won at Downpatrick in June for Henry De Bromhead, the drying ground is in her favour and with Harry Skelton on for the first time and the potential switch to positive tactics, under which her two wins came, she is of interest.
SPYCATCHER – 3.00 Newmarket
He has a terrific record fresh and is one from one over course-and-distance so SPYCATCHER is fancied to make a winning return.
The pick of his 2023 form included going down by a short head to King Gold in the Prix Maurice de Gheest and finishing third to Art Power in the Champions Sprint on QIPCO British Champions Day. Those efforts put him bang in the mix here.
