That makes matters a little easier for course winner Animal who has taken time to find his feet this season but who very much caught the eye staying on when the race was all over at Fontwell last time. Suzy Smith’s gelding has dropped 20lb from his peak rating and has been shaping as if a return to marathon trips is what he needs, having produced a career best to be second in the Surrey National a couple of years ago. He got going too late at Fontwell last time, but finished with running left and looks ready to take advantage of the handicapper’s leniency.

RICHARDSON has been a bit too high in the handicap after back-to-back wins around this time last year and essentially he's been getitng his mark back down to something work workable whilst getting himself back to full fitness at the same time. That can easily be demonstrated by the fact he's now only a pound higher than his last winning mark and he did take this race in similar ground last year, so has every chance of success.
