Our new columnist looks ahead to his rides at Newmarket for the Betfred Guineas Festival including in the 1000 Guineas.
Sunday
Yashin – 14.55 Newmarket
He won the Sagaro fresh a couple of years ago so hopefully he can return to that sort of level first time up. Again, he’s another horse that hasn’t gone on from there. He clearly has the ability but he has to show it on the track now.
The Prettiest Star – 15.35 Newmarket
I’m really excited about her. She has a similar profile to Into The Sky in the 2000 Guineas given she is by Starman and won well on debut. She was beaten in the Group 2 Rockfel on this track but I was a little bit frustrated she didn’t run down Zanthos that day.
She’s been training really well. She has had a few away-days including a piece of work on the Rowley Mile. She has been pleasing us all spring.
Again, the trip is a question mark. She’s quick. She was a little bit on it over the seven in the Rockfel but she did seem to stay on really well up the hill. With that in mind we’re very hopeful she will stay.
Precise is the one to beat. I thought she was very good in the Fillies’ Mile over the course and distance so she sets the standard. But I’m very happy to be on The Prettiest Star. I’m really looking forward to getting on her I think she is top class.
