Top Irish expert Fran Berry looks ahead to today's action from Leopardstown and he's got an each-way bet in the opening race.
1pt e.w. White Clover in 1.15 Leopardstown at 14/1 (General 1/5 1,2,3)
You could argue the Flat season proper finally kicks off in Ireland with quick ground at Leopardstown where there are a couple of interesting Classic trials.
The Derby Trial Stakes isn't the most competitive and I'll issue a watching brief, likewise in the Group 3 race for fillies and the Amethyst for older horses over the mile.
The opening Fitz Agriplant Maiden ever seven furlongs would appear to be all about Igor Stravinsky and Apricot Ice, according to the market, but it's filly WHITE CLOVER, who was just two lengths behind Igor on debut at the Curragh, who appeals from an each-way perspective.
Well backed first time out, she had a relatively tough run through from stall 16, but she jumped well enough and just didn't get much cover so ran with the choke out a little.
Despite that, she was seemingly one of the last to come off the bridle before tiring close home which was understandable in the circumstances.
The suspicion is she could probably win over six furlongs, but the turning seven around Leopardstown should be fine and she has a low draw which will hopefully allow her to relax in behind the leaders through the early stages.
