Rory Delargy and David Massey combine to bring you their best bets for today's racing, including the competitive card on day three of York's Dante Festival.
Racing betting tips: Friday May 15
0.5pts e.w. Ormolulu in 13:45 York at 18/1 (bet365 1/5 1,2,3,4,5,6) - min 16/1
1pt e.w. Kinnalargy in 16:40 York at 8/1 (Unibet 1/5 1,2,3,4,5) - min 7/1
1:45 York
There seems likely to be a heavily contested pace here given the number of known prominent racers in opposition and the race will be set up for one that can pick up the pieces late on.
ORMOLULU failed to make the frame in three starts here last season but caught the eye each time, typically travelling strongly but never getting any luck in running. Given her slow-starting hold-up style of running, she does seem to have run into a race that will finally be run to suit and as such, stall 19 is not the concern it could be. She looked just in need of the run on her return at Leicester and should need no excuses here.
2:55 York
In the last five runnings, no horse drawn higher than stall six has finished in the first two, which gives a clue as to where you need to be drawn here.
Tony Montana and Have Secret were second and third behind Thunder Run in this race last year, but despite having a length to spare, the former finds himself 5lb better off today. His first run for Kevin Philippart De Foy was a very solid one, finishing a close sixth in the Spring Cup, at Newbury, and giving the impression that the return to this trip would see him winning before long.
He should be spot on here, and his draw in stall 5 looks perfect, so I’ll be surprised if he can’t hit the frame at the very least.
4:05 York
A tactical affair looks likely unless Tarriance goes forward again, as he did at Ascot last time, but wouldn’t be sure to do so again, so it’s a race to approach with a bit of caution.
Amiloc, runner-up in the Irish St Leger, is preferred to Rahiebb, second in the St Leger at Doncaster, as he looks the more tactically versatile of the pair and ran arguably his best race when a close fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar in the autumn.
An emphasis on speed will suit him, whereas Rahiebb needed every yard of the trip at Doncaster and looks the sort to relish an even stiffer test this season.
4:40 York
Desert Treasure was unbeaten in two starts last year but the form of those wins hasn’t really worked out, and the speed figures achieved for them were moderate. She looks poorly handicapped on 83 given the filly she beat at Windsor last time was well beaten off a lowly mark of 60 earlier in the spring, and although the third has won twice, those wins have come in lower class.
KINNALARGY is a real powerhouse in physique which is just what you want in a 5f performer and he ended his juvenile campaign when fourth to Sword Maker in a Doncaster nursery, missing out on second by half a length behind the easy winner who is now rated 16lb higher. The third and fifth from that race won next time and the latter scored again subsequently to see his mark rise by 10lb. As such, Kinnalargy looks well treated having been left on a mark of 85 for that effort, and he can show himself ahead of the handicapper with stall 1 a bonus and his stable on target over C&D with Dickensian on Thursday.
Arduis Invicta blew her handicap mark when finishing third in the Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes at Ayr last September but she’s been eased to a mark of 83 now, which is realistic, she ran well from a high draw at Chester last week, beaten just two lengths in a competitive race despite having to be dropped in from a wide draw.
She’s also fairly berthed in stall 5 and has the right run style for this. Entailed is a likely front-runner in stall 2, and it appears Gemma Tutty has found the key to her pretty quickly after she lost her way for Andrew Balding at the back end of last year. She only gave best very late when third at Thirsk last month, finishing a close third at odds of 50/1 and if she comes on a bit from that, she’s got a squeak at a big price and is worth including in exotics with the other low draws mentioned.
