The Gordon Elliott-trained and Gigginstown-owned horse was a hot 10/11 favourite for the top-level contest and he travelled ominously well throughout under Jack Kennedy.

Second best in the market was the Willie Mullins-trained Blue Sari but he disappointed with an average run and it was left to rank outsider Heaven Help Us to give Abacadabras most to do.

A less than fluent leap at the last from the favourite opened the door for Heaven Help Us, but Abacadabras found plenty for pressure on the run for home and extended to win by eight lengths.

Elliott said of Abacadabras: "He's got a bit of pace and we rode him for it. I'd say the hurdle flicked back at him going down the back (straight), but he's professional enough and I'm happy with him.

"He'll probably come back here in February. I'd say a bit better ground would suit him as he doesn't bend his knee too much and just flicks across the top of the ground.

"When he got to the front he didn't do a stroke again. He's a nice horse."

It was also a form boost for stablemate Envoi Allen and the two horses now dominate the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle market.

The sponsors go 7/2 (favourite) Abacadabras and 6/1 Envoi Allen, with the latter also the 7/4 favourite for the Ballymore.

Sky Bet spokesman Michael Shinners said: "That was impressive from Abacadabras and the cruising speed he showed suggests he has the pace for a Sky Bet Supreme.

"He's the new favourite for the race with Gordon Elliott holding all the aces at the moment for both the Sky Bet Supreme and the Ballymore."
