This year's Derby at Epsom Downs - sponsored for the first time by Betfred - will be run at an earlier time of 1.30pm due to a clash with the ITV coverage of the FA Cup final.
The FA Cup final between Manchester rivals United and City - also on Saturday June 3 - is set to kick-off at 3pm, with the police considering the match a high-risk fixture regarding safety, meaning the originally scheduled 4.30pm start for the 2023 Derby was no longer suitable for ITV's programming.
The Jockey Club had been waiting on the outcome of last week's FA Cup semi-finals before confirming a new post-time with ITV, but the website has revealed it will be given an earlier slot.
The Jockey Club website states: "The Betfred Derby 2023 will be run at 1.30pm on Saturday June 3 at Epsom Downs Racecourse. Please be aware timings are subject to change."
The Derby has been run at 4.30pm on all but one occasion since 2015, while the last three FA Cup finals have kicked off between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.
The Jockey Club said the first race would take place at 12.50pm with the Derby the second race on the card.
James Crespi, general manager of Epsom, said: “This year, the first Saturday in June will play host to two Derbys and two of Britain’s great sporting events.
“In order to give fans of both horse racing and football the opportunity to enjoy the Betfred Derby and the FA Cup final and to maximise the publicity and exposure of these two iconic sporting occasions, which will both be broadcast live on ITV1, we have made some changes to our usual schedule.
“We are grateful to our partners at ITV and our generous sponsors Betfred for their help in facilitating the move, and we can’t wait for what is sure to be a great afternoon for British sport.”
ITV show big sporting double
ITV will show live, free-to-air coverage of the Betfred Derby followed by the first ever Manchester derby FA Cup Final. Both events will be shown on ITV1 and simulcast on ITVX, with the Derby starting at 1.30pm and the FA Cup Final clash between Manchester City and Manchester United kicking off at 3pm.
ITV1's Derby coverage will begin at 12.30pm, followed by build-up to the FA Cup Final from 2.15pm.
Racing coverage will continue on ITV4 (also simulcast on ITVX) from that time, with all races from Epsom on the day to be shown live.
