One Of Our Own was a ready winner over C&D last time out and a 6lb rise is probably workable, but whether she fancies doing it again is another matter.

Her wins are few and far between these days, and there is no guarantee she’ll be in the same form here. Profiteer is likely to need the run after an absence and probably needs to go back to Pontefract, where most of his best efforts have come, to get competitive.

Preference, in order is for GLORY HYDE, and Taygar, who returned to form at Ayr a fortnight ago. Glory Hyde came good over 5½f at Wetherby two starts ago and shaped like she was still very much in form when an unlucky fifth at Beverley last week, boxed in with nowhere to go when the pace lifted but running on strongly once out to be beaten under two lengths, and makes obvious appeal off the same mark now.

Taygar was struggling towards the back end of last year and dropped 8lb as a result, but she was nicely backed dropping to Class 6 company at Ayr last time and ran her best race for a while, finishing a length second to the fairly unexposed Filly’s Last Lady. She needs to build on that now, but is another who ought to go well.

Top weight Perfect Ruler has yet to offer much, despite coming in for market support on her return, and an opening mark of 60 looks stiff enough on what she’s achieved. William Haggas is in excellent form and she’ll be backed again but looks opposable.

Forever Twenty appears to be getting the hang of things now, and her length third to Tekitoff at Doncaster was her best effort so far, with the tongue-tie she wore there retained now.

A repeat of that gives her every chance, and she is selected as main rival on form, Full Gas, is often slowly away and that trait tends to get punished at Redcar, where track position is a significant advantage.

Long Shot heads the market here but there is no evidence that this speedily bred sort is in need of a seventh furlong with his dam producing nothing but sprinters, 6f the furthest any of her offspring has won at.

His form here in April gives him a chance, but he didn’t build on it last time despite attracting market support.

Maybe Soon switches to turf after four all-weather efforts this spring and she shaped better than the result on handicap bow at Southwell, meeting trouble in the run after a moderate break and giving the impression the run didn’t get to the bottom of her.

She has been dropped a generous 4lb for that run and is should find this trip on turf up her street. In a weak race, she can run well for a stable in fair form (two wins and a second from last nine runners).

William Dewhirst makes a switch back to turf after spending the last 18 months exclusively at Newcastle, but he does have a C&D win to his name, and is starting to look very well handicapped now. He’s the sort to bounce back at some point, but it’s a concern that his stable’s yet to make much impact on turf this year.

Green Pursuit was a good second over C&D second in September and shaped a lot better than fifth at Thirsk last time would suggest, looking like he was running himself into form.

He’s on a winnable mark and would make plenty of appeal if there was more rain around, but I’m taking a chance on course specialist DETECTIVE, who stays further but has shown his best form at around 7f/1m in recent times and clearly needed the run on his return at Musselburgh.

His record at 7f-1m1f here on good or quicker ground reads 121122222123428617 and he’s best after a short break (2-6 weeks these days). He’s in the veteran stage now, but was a winner at Musselburgh last season and has dropped to his last winning mark, so merits serious consideration at what are likely to be generous odds.
