Following a dry night, the going for the opening day of the Festival today remains Good to Soft on both the chase and hurdle courses. The Old Course is used for the first two days of action.
Cheltenham’s Clerk of the course Jon Pullin, officiating at The Festival for the first time in 2022, confirmed: “It was dry overnight and it’s dry again this morning, so the going remains Good to Soft as I gave it yesterday evening.
“The latest GoingStick readings on both the chase and hurdle courses this morning was 6.3, from 6.4 yesterday lunchtime.”
The threat of rain on Wednesday has receded somewhat according to the latest forecasts, and watering on the New Course, which will be in use for racing on Thursday and Friday, remains a possibility.
Pullin added: “They are forecasting less rain now than they were, and it’s now looking as if it could be as little as 2mm. We’ll get an updated forecast tomorrow morning and then see what we get through the day before making any decision on watering, but we won’t be doing anything until after racing on Wednesday, if at all.”
