BETTRENDS SELECTION: COUNT MERIBEL
Lightly-raced chasers (particularly second-season chasers) have a fine record in the BetVictor Gold Cup, whilst previous course form is another huge plus. Focusing on those rated 148 or lower is a good starting point and horses who have previously contested a Grade 1 also boast a fine record during the past decade.
Only three horses pass all four key trends (one being market leader Slate House), but preference is for COUNT MERIBEL, who won over course-and-distance at last year’s meeting. He finished runner-up at Carlisle recently, in a race used as a ‘prep’ by three BetVictor winners since 2006, and is fancied to give his stable a fifth win in the race.
