AFC Wimbledon say they have received 'around 80 applications' for the vacant managerial position at the Sky Bet League One club.
The Dons announced last week that manager Neal Ardley had left the club by mutual consent.
Ardley, who was appointed by Wimbledon in October 2012, departed alongside his assistant manager Neil Cox.
Former Wimbledon player Wally Downes has been backed into odds-on 1/5 favourite for the position with Sky Bet, with Ian Holloway drifting from 9/2 to 20/1.
Downes made 207 appearances for the club between 1979 and 1988 before going onto feature for Newport County, Sheffield United and Hayes.
His only management spell in English football came with Brentford, where he held the position from June 2002 to March 2004, with the Second Division Manager of the Month award his sole accolade.
Next permanent AFC Wimbledon manager (odds via Sky Bet)
- Wally Downes - 1/5
- Lee Clark - 5/1
- Paul Hurst - 9/1
- Tim Sherwood - 10/1
- Mark Robinson - 12/1
- Danny Wilson - 18/1
- Ian Holloway - 20/1
In a statement on their club website, AFC Wimbledon said "The Football Club Board has been reviewing all of the applications and producing a list of candidates to interview.
"Preliminary interviews are due to take place over the next few days, with a view to appointing a new manager next week.
The Board are of course determined to make rapid progress on this and to have the right manager in place as soon as possible.
"In the meantime, we are grateful to Simon Bassey and Steven Reid for managing the team on an interim basis."
Wimbledon are currently 8/11 third-favourites for relegation with Sky Bet, with a top-half finish available at 14/1.
