According to Sky Sports News, Cardiff are close to signing Alex Smithies from QPR. The Premier League new boys are said to be in the market for a goalkeeper, and could opt to sign the 28-year old for a fee reported to be around £4m.

In a report by Corriere dello Sport, Lazio could be in for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman was a favourite under Arsene Wenger, but the Italian giants are seemingly monitoring his situation at the Emirates after Unai Emery took over the hot seat.

Everton captain Wayne Rooney has reportedly taken a step closer to a move to DC United.

Sky sources have reported that Rooney could finalise a deal in the coming days, in time for a debut in their brand new stadium which officially opens on July 14.

Cardiff forward Junior Hoilett has committed himself to the Premier League new boys for another three years.

Hoilett, who has scored 13 goals in 83 appearances since leaving QPR in 2016, had been out of contract after helping Cardiff win promotion from the Sky Bet Championship last season.

"It feels amazing to finally sign the new deal," Hoilett told the official Cardiff website.

"It was always going to happen though. I want to continue my career here and never wanted to go anywhere else.

"I want to go on and achieve more things in the Premier League with a great group of lads."

The 28-year-old Canada international began his career at Blackburn before moving to QPR in the summer of 2012.

Hoilett topped the Cardiff scoring charts last season with 11 goals in 50 league and cup games and will now remain in south Wales until the summer of 2021.

Paddy McNair reacts to Sunderland's relegation to Sky Bet League One

Sunderland utility man Paddy McNair has completed his move to Sky Bet Championship Middlesbrough, the Teessiders have confirmed.

The 23-year-old Northern Ireland international has signed a four-year deal after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee understood to be in the region of £5million.

A statement on Boro's official website, www.mfc.co.uk, said: "Boro have completed the signing of Paddy McNair from Sunderland. The highly-rated 23-year-old midfielder joins on a four-year contract.

"McNair, a full Northern Ireland international with 20 caps to his name, becomes Boro's first signing of the summer."
