Football news and talking points: Luis Enrique wants Premier League move, Liverpool eye second and Golden Boot race

After another eventful weekend in the world of football, George Pitts takes a look at the top stories dominating Monday's headlines.

Luis Enrique: Former Barcelona boss wants Premier League job

Arsenal and Chelsea have been put on red alert after discovering that Luis Enrique wishes to manage in the Premier League next season.

The former Barcelona boss, a Champions League winner in 2015, is also said to be interesting Paris Saint-Germain but he favours a move to England.

Current Blues boss Antonio Conte’s is the odds-on favourite at 4/9 with Sky Bet to be the next Premier League manager to leave his job.

Stamford Bridge future has been uncertain in recent weeks, with Enrique one of the front-runners to replace him.

But Conte has only had good things to say about Enrique: “We played against each other and he’s a really good person. I have great admiration for Luis Enrique and he is a fantastic coach.

“He reached his targets with Barcelona, and also with Roma, you could see a well-organised team. I can speak about him very well, as a person and a coach.

“We do this job, and our job is not difficult, but you must be open and understand the situation can change. A club can take different decisions. ‘It’s the same for me. But, I repeat, I’m not jealous or envious of other managers. Everyone knows his job, his work. I have, usually, a great respect.”

Chelsea face West Brom on Monday evening and they are the odds-on favourites at 4/11 with Sky Bet to beat the Baggies, who can be backed as 8/1 outsiders.

Man City crowned champions: New date revealed

Manchester City cruised to victory at Leicester at the weekend, while second-placed Man United lost at Newcastle.

It means the Citizens now have a 16-point lead at the top – and the earliest date Pep Guardiola’s men can be crowned champions is rather interestingly now on derby day.

Should the two teams not drop points in their next five games, a win for City in the Manchester derby at the Etihad on April 7 will see them crowned title winners.

If United drop points before then and City storm to the title earlier, the Red Devils could give their neighbours a guard of honour.

Next six Premier League fixtures

Manchester City: Arsenal (A), Chelsea (H), Stoke (A), Brighton (H), Everton (A), Man United (H)

Manchester United: Chelsea (H), Crystal Palace (A), Liverpool (H), West Ham (A), Swansea (H), Man City (A)

Liverpool: Merseysiders eyeing second

United dropping points means Liverpool are now just two points off second spot.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds were 2-0 winners at Southampton on Sunday, putting Jose Mourinho’s side firmly in their sights.

This adds extra significance to the two sides’ meeting at Old Trafford on March 10.

The Red Devils are currently 5/4 favourites with Sky Bet to finish as runners up, while Liverpool are 7/4.

Golden Boot: The race is on!

When Sporting Life assessed the race for the Golden Boot last week, it appeared to be a two-horse race, with Sergio Aguero just keeping in touching distance of the pack.

But four goals for the Argentinian ace v Leicester on Saturday means he is firmly back in contention to finish as the league’s top scorer.

Goals for Harry Kane and Mo Salah ensured they are still ahead of Aguero, but only slightly. The three forwards have been in red-hot form this season and it will be interesting to watch how the race for the Boot unfolds in the coming weeks.

Relegation battle: Bottom half sides winning

The Premier League title race may be over, but we have the top four, Golden Boot and especially the battle to avoid relegation to look forward to.

Huddersfield, Swansea, Newcastle and West Ham secured victories to move away from the bottom three.

David Wagner’s Huddersfield have slid down the table over the last few weeks, making them favourites for relegation to the Sky Bet Championship, but the Terriers' home win over Bournemouth moves them up to 17th.

Swansea saw off out-of-form Burnley, Newcastle shocked Man United at St James Park and West Ham defeat Watford, leaving David Moyes’ side four points clear of the drop.

Premier League relegation odds 2017/18 (via Sky Bet)

West Brom - 4/9
Stoke City - 8/11
Huddersfield Town - 5/6
Swansea - 15/8
Brighton - 5/2
Crystal Palace - 10/3
Newcastle United - 4/1
Southampton - 9/2
