Sky Bet Championship review

Cardiff closed to within three points of Sky Bet Championship leaders Wolves after a 2-1 home win over Barnsley.

Callum Paterson opened the scoring on 31 minutes, and on-loan Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic doubled the lead early in the second half.

Oliver McBurnie, on loan from Swansea, pulled a goal back on the hour.

Aston Villa remain third after a 3-0 win at bottom club Sunderland.

Lewis Grabban headed in against his old club on 34 minutes and James Chester nodded home a second from a corner just before the break.

An own goal by Sunderland midfielder Bryan Oviedo in the 66th minute completed the rout.

Fulham continued their own promotion charge with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United at Craven Cottage, where on-loan Newcastle frontman Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice.

Mitrovic bundled in a low cross on 31 minutes for his fourth goal in as many games, and added another well-taken effort just before the break.

Tom Cairney knocked in a third after 61 minutes as Fulham made it 14 Championship games undefeated.

Derby, beaten by Fulham on Saturday, were held to a 1-1 draw at QPR.

The Rams went ahead on 38 minutes through Andreas Weimann, but Massimo Luongo headed in an equaliser with just three minutes left.

That equaliser was a massive blow for backers of the Sporting Life Accumulator as it denied a 16/1 success.

New Birmingham boss Garry Monk had a 39th birthday to forget as his first match in charge ended with 1-0 defeat by former club Middlesbrough at St Andrew's. Patrick Bamford's close-range finish on 39 minutes proved enough for Boro, who are into sixth while Blues remain in the bottom three.

Burton remain in trouble after a 2-0 home defeat against Brentford.

The Bees went ahead on the hour through an own goal from Burton captain Kyle McFadzean and Ollie Watkins scored a second with 10 minutes left.

Hull are also looking over their shoulders after losing 2-1 at home to Millwall.

The Lions swept ahead inside the opening minute through George Saville and Jake Cooper then headed in from a corner on 33 minutes.

Celebrations for Millwall

Substitute Abel Hernandez, in his first appearance since August after injury, pulled a goal back with 11 minutes left.

The game at the Madejski Stadium saw relegation-battlers Reading and Bolton draw 1-1.

Mo Barrow's fine solo goal opened the scoring on 32 minutes, before former Royals frontman Adam Le Fondre bundled in an equaliser on the stroke of half-time.

Preston dented Bristol City's play-off hopes with a 2-1 win at Deepdale.

Alan Browne's chip broke the deadlock on 20 minutes, before City equalised through Famara Diedhiou's header on 67 minutes.

North End, though, were soon back in front when Sean Maguire finished off a counter-attack. Robins defender Aden Flint was then sent off in stoppage-time for a stray arm in the penalty area.

Martyn Waghorn scored twice as Ipswich won 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday.

Striker Waghorn put the visitors ahead on 51 minutes, but Owls substitute Lucas Joao levelled after 69 minutes.

Waghorn, though, had the final say when he clipped in an angled free-kick with seven minutes left.

Norwich and Nottingham Forest played out a goalless draw at Carrow Road.

Sky Bet League One review

Rochdale bounced back from their FA Cup defeat at Tottenham by climbing off the bottom of the Sky Bet League One table with an emphatic 3-0 victory at woeful Walsall.

Jim McNulty, Ian Henderson and a super solo goal from debutant Bournemouth loanee Mihai Dobre moved Dale above Bury but they remain nine points from safety, albeit with games in hand.

Rochdale are odds-on at 8/11 with Sky Bet be relegated and Walsall can be backed at 13/2 to go down.

Sky Bet League Two review

Accrington Stanley maintained their Sky Bet League Two promotion push as Billy Kee's penalty on the stroke of half-time gave the home side a 1-0 win over Morecambe.

Kee's goal after a Dean Winnard foul proved even more valuable as third-placed Notts County lost further ground after being held to a 1-1 draw at Cheltenham.

Terry Hawkridge put the visitors in front three minutes before the break but County's promotion push stalled in the 66th minute when Joe Morrell replied for the hosts.

Ollie Palmer grabbed a last-minute equaliser for Lincoln in a controversial ending to their 1-1 draw at play-off contenders Mansfield.

Joel Byrom put Mansfield in front after 49 minutes but - after Palmer equalised - tempers frayed and both Lincoln's Luke Waterfall and the Stags' Rhys Bennett were sent off in separate incidents.

Forest Green boosted their survival prospects in an entertaining 3-3 draw at Newport.

Dan Butler scored a goal at each end in the opening nine minutes, cancelling out an own goal with a leveller for the hosts, before Paul Hayes put Newport in front.

Hayes grabbed his second after Gavin Gunning had briefly drawn Forest Green level, before Lee Collins sealed a point eight minutes from time.
