European transfer news: PSG complete permanent deal for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, who was on loan from Serie A side

PSG have completed a permanent deal for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, who has been on loan from the Serie A side since September.

The Argentina international has signed a four-year deal in Paris after playing the 2019-20 season on loan from Milan - before the French season was ended by the coronavirus pandemic.

PSG claimed their ninth league title after Ligue 1 was settled by points per game, and they're now planning for next season.

Part of that is by taking up the option to buy Icardi for €50m, and with that option expiring on Sunday, they've left it until the last possible moment before sealing the move.

The 27-year-old was deemed surplass to Inter's requirements once Antonio Conte joined as manager, but played well in Paris, scoring 20 goals in 31 games for PSG and adding a further four assists.

His audition in effect could well be to take Edinson Cavani's place next season, with the Uruguay striker, PSG's all-time leading scorer, set to leave once his contract expires at the end of June.

Cavani will draw big interest from around Europe with coronavirus changing the transfer landscape, and ironically Inter Milan are one of the teams most interested in signing him.

Inter themselves are gearing up for losing Lautaro Martinez to Barcelona this summer, and Cavani is one of the best free agent signings out there.
