Unai Emery's Arsenal transfer targets - according to the odds

Recently appointed Arsenal boss Unai Emery represents a significant change for the north London club, which has been embraced in an Arsene Wenger regime for the last 22 years.

The 46-year-old Spaniard has been gifted the task of transforming Arsenal back into a title-winning club, after a 14-year drought without the Premier League crown.

With significantly less to spend than their competitors, Emery is going to have to be crafty in order to secure his targets.

Alfie Mawson (Swansea) – 3/1

Swansea defender Alfie Mawson (pictured celebrating, above) has endured a turbulent end to the 2017/18 season.

The England international suffered relegation with the Swans, before being ruled out of contention to compete in the World Cup with a knee injury, but there could be light at the end of the tunnel for the 24-year-old.

Unai Emery will be certain to try and improve Arsenal’s ageing central defence, and the Swansea defender could be the right answer at the correct price for the Gunners. Mawson to swap Wales for north London is 3/1.

Anthony Martial (Manchester United) – 14/1

Manchester United winger Anthony Martial has struggled to stamp down a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January, and murmurs around Manchester have indicated that the Frenchman may want away.

With Henrikh Mkhitaryan making the switch from Old Trafford to the Emirates earlier this year, another possible deal between the two clubs is not out of the realms of possibility. Emery may look to the winger, who has been left out of France's World Cup squad, to guide the Gunners to glory.

Caglar Soyuncu (Freiburg) - 5/2

Caglar Soyuncu has been the reported subject of a tug-of-war between some of Europe’s top clubs, but as Emery settles in, it appears as though Arsenal are among the front-runners at 5/2.

The 22-year-old Freiburg defender will command a hefty transfer fee, with a reported price tag of around £35m. But if Emery is to succeed, he may need to take calculated risks in the market and this young Turkish defender could be the key to solidifying Arsenal’s defensive woes.

Malcom (Bordeaux) – 14/1

Bordeaux attacker Malcom is certainly raising a few eyebrows with his displays in Ligue 1.

The Brazilian-born forward has been attracting interest with his silky style of play and blistering pace.

The 21-year-old could not quite break into the Brazil squad for the upcoming World Cup, but it may provide him with valuable time to decide his future. Arsenal have been rumoured to be interested in his services, and at 14/1 they could be in the running to make a swoop this summer.

Thomas Lemar (Monaco) – 5/1

Thomas Lemar was inches away from being Arsene Wenger’s record signing last summer. A deadline-day deal of €100m agonisingly fell through at the death, and the Frenchman stayed at Monaco. But perhaps Emery’s arrival might reignite the interest and the Spaniard could look to finish what Wenger started - a successful deal is currently priced at 5/1.

The 22-year-old will be preoccupied at the World Cup in Russia, but he is sure to have one eye on what lies ahead.

Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona) – 8/1

A slightly left-field deal we could see this summer is another French international in the form of Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.

The 21-year-old’s £135.5m deal to Spain last summer was in the hope he could be a straight replacement for the departing Neymar. However, his first campaign with the Catalan giants did not quite go to plan, disrupted by injuries followed by the January arrival of Phillippe Coutinho, which went on to limit first team appearances for the Frenchman.

So with a potential front three of Messi, Suarez and Coutinho, Dembele may look to London to reignite his career. The deal would most likely be a loan intended to get the young forward fit and playing regular first team football. The transfer could work well for Arsenal, with the Gunners likely to have a hectic schedule due to their notoriously draining Europa League involvement.

Arsenal are no stranger to transactions with the La Liga champions, so this deal at odds of 8/1 is definitely one to keep an eye on.
