Sunday review

Chris Bridge and Rhys Hanbury strolled in for hat-tricks as Widnes swept aside lacklustre Featherstone Rovers 58-10 to maintain their fourth place position in the Super League Qualifiers.

With Leigh stunning Catalans in Perpignon, Hull KR beating London and Warrington easing to victory over Halifax, Denis Betts' side could not afford any slip-ups.

And they made no mistakes with a stylish win over sorry Rovers who conceded 11 tries.

All the damage was done early on with Vikings backs Hanbury, Bridge and Charly Runciman helping themselves to doubles in the most one sided first half of rugby Widnes have produced all year.

Stefan Marsh managed two tries after the break while Joe Mellor also crossed in the second half. Featherstone's tryscorers were Misi Taulapapa and James Lockwood.

Saturday review

Warrington maintained their unbeaten start to the Super 8s Qualifiers but were given an almighty scare by Kingstone Press Championship side Halifax at the Halliwell Jones stadium.

After successive wins over Betfred Super League opposition in Widnes and Catalans, many expected this to be a simple afternoon's work for the Wolves - it was anything but.

In a match that would end as a 22-8 win for Warrington, the sides were locked at just 4-4 at half-time with Peta Hiku crossing for the Wolves and Chester Butler replying for Halifax.

There was still little to choose between the two sides in the second half as Chris Hill edged Warrington in front before Butler replied with his second of the game to leave the Super League side clinging to a 10-8 lead with 15 minutes remaining.

But two tries late in the game from Matty Russell and Andre Savelio and three goals from Declan Patton spared the Wolves' blushes as they protected their 100 per cent record.

Leigh boosted their hopes of preserving their place in the Super League after dismantling Catalans Dragons 30-6 in sunny Perpignan.

Adam Higson and Cory Paterson each bagged a brace of tries while Josh Drinkwater also touched down, with Ben Reynolds booting 10 points as the Ceturions claimed their second win in three Super 8s Qualifiers.

Friday review

England winger Ryan Hall marked his 300th appearance for Leeds with a crucial try to help them get them back on course for a home semi-final in Super League.

The Rhinos turned around an 8-2 half-time deficit to gain a tense 16-14 victory over St Helens on the night the club bade a fond farewell to the famous South Stand, which is to be demolished as part of a major Headingley stadium re-development.

It means Leeds are three points clear of third-placed Hull with four matches left of the Super 8s, while St Helens missed the chance to climb back into the top four.

Second-half ties from Hall and Adam Cuthbertson helped the Rhinos fight back after conceding the only try of the first half shortly before the break to Jonny Lomax.

Danny Richardson's late try proved only a consolation as the hosts held on for victory.

Wigan warmed up for next Saturday's Challenge Cup Final with an eight-try demolition of Salford to keep them in the hunt for a top-four Super League place.

The Warriors produced one of their best halves of rugby for some time as they led 26-0 at the break with Joe Burgess scoring twice and Sean O'Loughlin, Liam Farrell and Sam Powell also getting in the act as they outplayed Salford for 40 minutes.

Tries from George Williams and Frank-Paul Nuuausala saw the Warriors lead 38-0 and it was game over by the 54th minute, although Salford did grab a consolation through Niall Evalds before Liam Marshall got his name on the scoresheet to secure a 42-6 success.

In the night's other game, Lee Gaskell helped ruin Gareth Ellis's big night out as Challenge Cup holders Hull FC suffered a 46-18 defeat to top-four hopefuls Huddersfield at the KCOM Stadium.

The former St Helens, Salford and Bradford star scored a hat-trick and winger Darnell McIntosh touched down twice after Ellis, in his 450th career game, gave Wembley-bound Hull an early advantage.

Lee Radford's Black and Whites played with next weekend's Challenge Cup final clearly on their minds as Huddersfield responded from their previous week's defeat at Hull's final opponents Wigan.

Thursday review

Veteran centre Jake Webster produced a four-try five-star show to help Castleford claim their place in history.

The 33-year-old former New Zealand international scored half of his side's eight tries as the hugely-impressive Tigers duly lifted the League Leaders' Shield for the first time in the club's 91-year history.

An ultimately comfortable 45-20 victory over neighbours Wakefield in front of a raucous, near-capacity 11,235 crowd at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle enabled Castleford to get their hands on the elusive trophy with four games to spare.

It guarantees Daryl Powell's men a home semi-final, putting them just 80 minutes from a maiden Grand Final appearance at Old Trafford, and also earns them a place in the prestigious 2018 Dacia World Club Series.
