Super League review: Hull FC thrash rivals Hull KR

A review of Friday's action in the Betfred Super League as Hull FC thrashed rivals Hull KR in record-breaking fashion.

Super League results

  • Hull FC 56-12 Hull KR
  • Warrington 12-36 Salford
  • Wigan 10-36 St Helens
  • Leeds 38-18 Huddersfield

Record derby win for Hull FC

Hull FC climbed to fourth place in Super League in emphatic fashion as they recorded the biggest margin of victory in derby history with a 56-12 success over Hull KR at the KCOM Stadium.

The two sides traded early scores from Jake Connor and Jimmy Keinhorst before Hull grabbed a foothold in the game with a brace of tries from Jack Logan to put Lee Radford's side 18-6 up inside 19 minutes.

Craig Hall marked his 100th Rovers appearance with a try two minutes before half-time to reduce the gap to 18-12, but a fine break just three minutes after the restart by Mark Minichiello saw the home side's advantage restored to 12 points.

Marc Sneyd extended the lead to 14 points with a simple penalty before Joe Westerman powered his way over to put Hull 32-12 in front with 17 minutes left.

Ben Crooks and Scott Taylor were both sin-binned to reduce to match to 12-a-side and the hosts exploited the gaps left in the visiting defence as Albert Kelly, Mickey Paea and Connor Wynne crossed, with Logan also completing his hat-trick to seal a stunning triumph in the 233rd Hull derby.

Salford stun Warrington

Robert Lui inspired Salford to a stunning 36-12 Betfred Super League victory over high-flying Warrington at the Halliwell Jones stadium.

The influential stand-off scored one try and had a hand in three others as Salford ended their four-match losing run in Super League in some style and inflicted Warrington's first home defeat of the season.

Lui, together with half back partner Jackson Hastings, pulled all the strings as Salford claimed other tries through Kris Welham, Joey Lussick, Jake Bibby and Daniel Murray, while Krisnan Inu kicked eight goals from nine attempts in a superb performance from Ian Watson's men.

The Wolves looked to be suffering a severe hangover after their loss in the top-of-the-table clash at St Helens seven days previous and on an error-strewn afternoon to forget for the Wolves they claimed tries through Blake Austin and Bryson Goodwin and two goals from Stefan Ratchford.

Amazing Grace stars for Saints

A hat-trick of tries from Wales winger Regan Grace was the highlight of St Helens' impressive 36-10 demolition of Wigan in the Good Friday derby at the DW Stadium.

A season's best attendance of 22,050 witnessed a game that marked the retirement of Sky Sports rugby league commentator Eddie Hemmings after 30 years in the job and perfectly summed up the current contrasting fortunes of these two modern greats.

While Saints followed up their opening-day victory at the Totally Wicked Stadium to go four points clear at the top - following Warrington's shock home defeat by Salford - the season goes from bad to worse for the reigning champions, who are level on points with bottom club London Broncos.

Adrian Lam's men now trail their arch rivals by 14 points after equalling the worst start by a reigning champion, set when Leeds won just three of their first 11 games in 2016.

To compound their misery, Wigan, who lost centre Dan Sarginson to a leg strain before kick-off, had two players carried off on a stretcher.

Winger Tom Davies went off midway through the first half with a suspected double leg fracture and half-back Jake Shorrocks was taken off two minutes from the end following a tackle that brought a yellow card for St Helens second rower Dom Peyroux.

Big boost for Rhinos

Leeds climbed off the foot of the Betfred Super League table as a first-half masterclass saw them thrash Huddersfield 38-18 to claim only their third win of the season.

Dave Furner's men have struggled badly for much of the 2019 campaign but this success lifted them above London Broncos on points difference.

Leeds were 30-0 up and in total control at half-time after tries from Tui Lolohea, James Donaldson, Brad Dwyer, Richie Myler and Tom Briscoe.

It was just reward for the Rhinos' dominance during an opening 40 minutes which saw star centre Konrad Hurrell forced off with a hamstring injury.

Huddersfield improved markedly after the break and hit back with three tries to cut Leeds' lead to 14 points but the hosts ensured victory when Ash Handley went over late on.
