Russian duo banned after positive tests

Two Russian rugby league players have been banned after testing positive for prohibited substances following their country's defeat to Italy in a 2017 World Cup qualifying match in Leigh.

Vadim Fedchuk and Mikhail Burlutskiy both failed tests presented by a UK Anti-Doping officer after Russia's 76-0 loss in the final European qualifying play-off tie at Leigh Sports Village on November 4.

The Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) announced Fedchuk had been given a four-year ban after testing positive for the steroid drostanolone while Burlutskiy had been suspended for two years after testing positive for a stimulant, methylhexaneamine.
