Ratchford charged by the RFL for Tomkins trip

Warrington full-back Stefan Ratchford has been charged by the Rugby Football League for allegedly tripping Wigan's Sam Tomkins.

Ratchford provoked an angry reaction from Tomkins when he appeared to catch the Warriors full-back off the ball in the early stages of Saturday's Ladbrokes Challenge Cup quarter-final at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The matter is considered a grade B offence, meaning Ratchford could face a ban of one or two matches if found guilty at a disciplinary hearing. He could avoid a hearing by using an early guilty plea and accepting a one-match suspension.

Huddersfield's Sam Rapira is also facing a grade B charge of raising the knee in a tackle following his side's Super League clash against St Helens on Friday.

Wakefield's Matty Ashurst has been charged with grade A dangerous contact following his side's cup quarter-final at Salford.

Both Rapira and Ashurst also have the option of making early guilty pleas. In Ashurst's case this would see no further action taken but he would not be permitted to submit another EGP for 12 months.

Wigan's Sam Powell was cautioned for standing on an opponent in his side's 27-26 success at Warrington.
