Danny Walker joins Warrington from Widnes
Warrington have signed teenage hooker Danny Walker from relegated Widnes on a three-year deal.
The Wolves have paid an undisclosed fee for Walker, 19, who was born in Warrington but joined the Vikings as a 16-year-old.
Warrington coach Steve Price said: "I heard good things from all my coaching staff who have a very high opinion of Danny having come through our local system.
"From that I took a strong interest in him and I see a lot of improvement in him as he's only young.
"I've watched him in a number of Widnes games throughout the season. He's got a lot speed and is quite creative and tough. I'm excited to get him to our club and for the future. There's a lot more to come from him."
Walker said: "I've supported Warrington all of my life and my family has too. I used to stand on the terraces so it means the world to me to have signed."
Widnes chief executive James Rule said: "Over the years, we have rebuffed several offers from Warrington Wolves for Danny but, with relegation, he was available for approach.
"Danny wishes to play in the Super League and was strongly drawn to the possibility of playing for his home-town club.
"As a club, we did everything in our power to keep him and made a very strong offer for his services in 2019, but ultimately, we have to accept his desire to move on.
"As a young academy-developed talent, we were entitled to compensation from Warrington Wolves.
"We are grateful that Warrington Wolves agreed to pay enhanced compensation for his services, respecting his status in our club and the efforts that we have dedicated to his development."
