Timeform's US Racing expert Jake Price is back with his tips for tonight's action Stateside.
Dealers Special 1pt win at 6/1 (min 4/1) – Santa Anita race 9 (01:15)
Today’s pick goes in the final race at Santa Anita and a late one at that for the British fans of US racing. It’s a maiden claimer on turf over nine furlongs that can go to Richard Baltas’ DEALERS SPECIAL.
The 3-year-old ran three times in maiden special weights last year when conditioned by George Papaprodromou. He showed little on debut when sprinting on the main track at Del Mar but put in his best effort next time. Stretching out to one mile on the Santa Anita turf he hit the board behind Stay Hot, who’s since gone on multiple stakes success, including a Grade 3.
He finished behind on his final outing but the form of those races stacks up pretty well with numerous subsequent winners coming out of them.
He cost $50,000 at last year’s sales and drops into this company for a similar tag. He also gets lasix for the first time and the form of his barn is another plus. I expect Dealers Special to run a big race in this spot.
