DOUBLE: Royal Elysian and Running Spirit.

Patrick Mullins Punchestown Festival day one rides

Royal Elysian can build on her initial outing this year with victory in the QuinnBet Fillies’ Handicap at Yarmouth.

James Ferguson’s charge came up against some tough juvenile opposition in four spins last year, most notably subsequent Group Two winner Star Of Mystery, but she did manage to get off the mark on the Newcastle all-weather in September.

A half-length victor dropped back to six furlongs, four of the fillies that finished in behind have come out and won since, giving the form a pleasing look.

Royal Elysian kicked off her three-year-old campaign on a mark of 79 at Southwell earlier this month, coming home third behind Bellarchi, who has since gone on to be narrowly denied at Beverley.

Eased 1lb by the handicapper, Royal Elysian could shape better for the outing.

Mobashr should go well despite the burden of top-weight in the QuinnBet Daily Free Bet Handicap.

Rated 90 in his pomp when trained by Marco Botti, he has slid down the rankings a bit and scored off a perch of 74 last summer for Mick Appleby.

Now on a mark of 78 after eight luckless runs, Mobashr can make the most of a slight dip in company.

Newcomer Running Spirit takes the eye in the Download The QuinnBet App Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the daughter of Invincible Spirit hails from a fine family, with Group One winner Jannah Rose and Group Two scorer Creggs Pipes among her half-siblings.

Tenyatta can go well for James Owen in the Old Ship Brightons Oldest Hotel Handicap at the seaside track.

She made a perfect start for Owen when winning at Wolverhampton last month after changing hands for 8,000 guineas in March, but raised 3lb she could not quite get there when third a week ago.

She was staying on that day and it is interesting Owen has opted to jump to 10 furlongs from seven.

Kodi Lion is the pick in the racingtv.com Restricted Maiden Stakes at Catterick after just running too freely when favourite on his seasonal reappearance.

It is day one of the Punchestown Festival and Slade Steel is backed to follow up his Cheltenham success in the KPMG Champion Novice Hurdle.

Henry de Bromhead’s charge proved too strong for the reopposing Mystical Power in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Prestbury Park and with the runner-up having since gone to Aintree and won, Slade Steel’s extra freshness could prove key as he looks to confirm the placings.

The Willie Mullins-trained Gentleman De Mee gets the nod in the William Hill Champion Chase, with the better ground expected to tip the scales in his favour as he renews rivalry with his Queen Mother Champion Chase conqueror Captain Guinness.
