MAPLEDURHAM - 18:15 Newcastle
MAPLEDURHAM paid the price for a promising juvenile season which saw her rated 75 for her final start. Off the track for almost a year, she struggled at three but gradually slipped down the weights and came within a head of a maiden success off 60 in September and continued to show the odd glimmer. She starts out for Ed Walker off 56 and has done enough to think that she can take advantage on only her fourth all-weather start.
Tuesday selections
SKI LODGE - 14:05 Haydock (NAP)
An intriguing little race but SKI LODGE looked to bump into a well-handicapped rival first time out over fences at Uttoxeter earlier in the month. He certainly wasn't disgraced in second and the experience should have done him the world of good too. On top of that, he returns to the scene of his maiden hurdle win from 12 months ago, while the assessor dropping him a pound in the weights is just the cherry on top really. A bold bid is firmly expected.
BITSNBUCKLES - 14:50 Taunton
It's low-grade stuff and something like handicap newcomer The Italian Fox could admittedly be thrown in down at the foot of the weights, but BITSNBUCKLES looks the safest play at Taunton. Sean Bowen takes over in the saddle from 3lb claimer Lewis Saunders and the horse looks open to further progress after the addition of a tongue-tie seemed to help when third at Huntingdon earlier in the month. He's up to three miles here and that's another potential source of improvement for the former point-to-pointer.
HAVANA RUM - 17:30 Wolverhampton
Richard Fahey's HAVANA RUM looked unlucky not to go very close at Chelmsford last time, posted wide and having to battle through traffic in the straight. By the time he got into the clear it was all too late and the front two had gone beyond recall. Having won at the same track the time before, the five-year-old is evidently in very good heart at present and he's well worth another chance off the revised mark of 80, despite being drawn out wide in stall eight of nine here as well.
