Jack Wilshere: Bournemouth to sign ex-Arsenal and West Ham midfielder

Bournemouth have reportedly signed Jack Wilshere on a deal until the end of the season, with the move expected to be announced in the next 24 hours, according to Sky Sports News.

The former Arsenal and England midfielder, 29, has been training with the Sky Bet Championship club since leaving West Ham in October.

Wilshere made 27 appearances for the Cherries during a season-long loan in 2016/2017 season.

He left boyhood club West Ham on transfer deadline day having played just 19 times, during two years at London Stadium.

His final appearance came against Hull in the Carabao Cup in September; his only start in the past 13 months. Wilshere last made a Premier League starting XI in August 2019.

He was a guest on the Super 6 podcast in November, where he joked that no matter what he would never join Tottenham.

"I’m open to MLS, Europe, anything with the right manager," said Wilshere at the time.

"I love Jose Mourinho, I think he’s an unbelievable coach, but I don’t think I could do it (join Arsenal). Let’s be honest as well, they wouldn’t have me.

"But I don’t think I could do it. It’s not as if Arsenal got rid of me and kicked me out and there is bad feeling, they offered me a deal and I wanted to try something else. I'm an Arsenal man.

"I want to enjoy my football and play 25-30 games a season. I’m open to (moving to) MLS, Europe anything with the right manager.

"I think the good thing about when I went to West Ham was that they brought in Manuel Pellegrini who tried to make us a team that had the ball. Obviously that didn’t work out for him.

"At Bournemouth they had a manager (Eddie Howe) who wanted to try and play and I had a really good year there.

"When I went to West Ham, I didn’t know it was going to be how it was. With my experience now, I’d be silly to go and sign for a team who are in a similar position to West Ham.

"When there is a relegation battle, teams want to nick a point and stay up, nick a goal and try and defend. That’s not the type of player I am."

Jack Wilshere has not played for England since 2016

From Barcelona to Bournemouth and back

A 16-year-old Wilshere burst on to the scene in 2008 and little over two years later he was an England international.

The high point of what at the time was a fledgling career came in 2011 when a man-of-the-match display saw him outshine legendary Barcelona trio Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Sergio Busquets to help Arsenal to an unlikely win in the Champions League.

He went on to make 197 appearances for the Gunners, and collect two FA Cup winner's medals, but his like his career since, his time in north London was blighted by injury.

Wilshere has only managed to feature in at least 30 league games in a single campaign once, last enjoying a season as a regular starter while on loan at Bournemouth in 2016/17.

The last of his 34 England caps came in the humiliating 2-1 defeat by Iceland at Euro 2016.
