Leeds United sign Ian Poveda from Manchester City on deal until 2024

Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds have completed the signing of forward Ian Poveda from Manchester City.

The 19-year-old has signed a deal that will keep him at Elland Road until 2024.

Marcelo Bielsa was eager to bring in another winger this month after Jack Clarke was recalled by Tottenham having struggled for game time during the first-half of the season.

Poveda makes the switch on a free transfer but the deal could rise to seven figures if certain clauses are met.

City also hold a sell-on clause between 25-30% but do not have a buy back option for the England u20 international.

"I know that they are a big club," Poveda told leedsunited.com. "I believe that they should be in the Premier League."

Poveda outlined how Bielsa was an influential factor in his decision to sign for the club.

“I’m very excited to work under Bielsa," he continued.

"I know he improves players and that’s what I’m looking to do under his guidance.

"I’m here to help the team as much as possible, to get promoted and restore this great club back to where it belongs."

He becomes the club's second arrival in January following the signing of goalkeeper Elia Caprile from Chievo Verona.

Leeds are currently second in the Sky Bet Championship, one point behind leaders West Brom.
