Derby 1-2 Bristol City

(video no longer available)

Andreas Weimann returned to torment Derby County as Bristol City won 2-1 at Pride Park.

The Austrian attacker, who left Derby in the summer of 2018, scored the first and was involved in Josh Brownhill's second at the end of the first half.

Derby had plenty of possession but created few clear chances until a superb late strike from Jack Marriott gave them hope, yet City kept their nerve to take the points.

Both teams made two changes, with Derby bringing in record signing Krystian Bielik for his first league start.

The Pole took up a midfield role, but it was Weimann who made the first telling contribution when he opened the scoring in the 16th minute.

Hull 0-1 Blackburn

Derrick Williams headed a second-half winner as Blackburn beat Hull 1-0 at the KCOM Stadium.

The left-back rose highest to convert Stewart Downing's free-kick in the 62nd minute and secure Rovers their third consecutive win over the Tigers.

Hull forward Jarrod Bowen missed a penalty, with Christian Walton producing a fine save in the 12th minute, before the woodwork was hit four times during a thrilling first half.

Winger Kamil Grosicki fired against the post for the Tigers, as did Rovers counterpart Downing, while visiting midfielder Bradley Johnson hit the bar twice.

Johnson was at fault for the early spot-kick, bringing down Jackson Irvine in the box with a clumsy tackle, but Walton guessed correctly and superbly beat away Bowen's well-struck effort.

Birmingham 2-0 Barnsley

(video no longer available)

Alvaro Gimenez marked his full Birmingham debut with a classy goal to cap a 2-0 win over Barnsley.

The striker, who scored 20 times for Almeria in Spain last season, wrapped up victory for Pep Clotet's side at St Andrew's.

Lukas Jutkiewicz's header had earlier given Blues the lead against a committed Barnsley side who lacked the quality to hurt their hosts.

It was a deserved win for Birmingham, their second of the season, as they moved up to eighth in the early Sky Bet Championship table.

Barnsley have four points from their opening four games to sit 17th after their promotion last term.

Middlesbrough 1-0 Wigan

(video no longer available)

Jonathan Woodgate enjoyed his first win as Middlesbrough head coach after watching his hometown team defeat Wigan 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium.

Britt Assombalonga's 23rd-minute header proved the difference on Teesside on a night when both teams had their moments and it was hardly a convincing victory.

But Woodgate, who had failed to win any of his opening four games in charge, got to enjoy the moment despite having to withstand some late pressure from the Latics.

Wigan arrived at the Riverside at least with a win under their belt, albeit on the opening weekend against Cardiff, something Middlesbrough had failed to achieve beforehand under Woodgate.

Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Luton

(video no longer available)

Sheffield Wednesday got back to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 home victory against Luton thanks to Kadeem Harris' second-half goal.

The defeat means newly-promoted Luton are still yet to win a match back in the Championship.

Both sides went into the game on the back of defeats, making three changes apiece to their starting line-ups.

Wednesday welcomed Barry Bannan back into their XI following his calf injury, alongside Moses Odubajo and Morgan Fox.

For Luton, Graeme Jones handed starts to James Bree, Andrew Shinnie and Kazenga LuaLua.
