Vinicus and Jude Bellingham

Ballon d'Or odds: Real Madrid duo Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr battling for favouritism

It looks set to be a straight shoot-out between Real Madrid teammates Jude Bellingham and Vinicus Jr for this year's Ballon d'Or.

The pair have been instrumental in a stellar campaign for Los Blancos, which has already seen them dominate La Liga and win the Champions League title.

Bellingham has shone in his first season in Spain, becoming a fans favourite in no time while being a leader in the squad.

The Englishman has scored 23 goals and assisted a further 13 across 42 games in all competitions this season, so he has the individual stats to go along with club success.

Couple that with the fact he is set to play at the Euros for the current favourites England, and the stars could align for Bellingham to become the first Englishman to win the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001.

Ballon d'Or 2024 winner odds (via Sky Bet)

  • Jude Bellingham 7/2

  • Rodri 16/1

Vinicus Jr does head the betting though after his dominant semi-final second leg against Bayer Munich, and his performance and goal in the final against Dortmund. His individual stats rival those of Bellingham's too, with 24 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

And, like Bellingham who has the Euros, Vinicius has the Copa America this summer, and if he drives a Brazil success in that competition he's likely going to be hard to beat.

Harry Kane is third favourite for the gong despite going trophyless this season with Bayern Munich, with his individual campaign impressive, netting 44 goals in 45 games for the Bavarians.

His chances to win the biggest individual award have to hinge on his and England's performance at the Euros, though even that may not be enough given Bellingham's campaign.

Kylian Mbappe was alongside Vinicius and Bellingham in the betting, but has drifted following PSG's elimination at the hands of Dortmund in the Champions League, exiting at the semi-final stage. Les Parisiens have coasted to another Ligue 1 title, and have won the domestic treble though.

In all competitions this season Mbappe has scored 43 goals and registered 10 assists in just 47 appearances, so has the individual stats on his side.

The French forward is his nations talisman, and very nearly dragged them to World Cup success in 2022, and if he can go one better at the upcoming Euros he could well pull himself back into the reckoning for a first Ballon d'Or.

Toni Kroos has been the big mover in last few weeks, with sentimentality seemingly behind the shortening of his price after he announced he was retiring from football after Euro 2024.

He has been sensational for Madrid this season, and should he help Germany to Euros success as hosts, he could well pick up the Ballon d'Or as he exits football.
