Football betting tips: African World Cup qualifying

1pt Nigeria to beat Ghana in 90 minutes at evens (William Hill, 888 Sport)

1pt Under 1.5 Goals in 90 minutes in Senegal v Egypt at 11/10 (General)

Nigeria v Ghana (agg. 0-0)

Nigeria and Ghana shared a drab goalless draw in the first leg of their World Cup qualifier, meaning this second leg is a winner takes all.

The Super Eagles registered just one shot in the entirety of that match, clearly happy to settle for a draw and to take matters into their own hands in front of their own fans.

They were impressive throughout the group stage of AFCON, before getting edged out by Tunisia in the last 16, and strolled to victory in an admittedly straightforward group in World Cup qualifying.

But, the firepower they have at their disposal should prove too much for a Ghana team who were embarrassed at AFCON.

Defeats to Morocco and Comoros saw them crash out, and the Black Stars were very fortunate to even make it to this stage of World Cup qualifying thanks to the most dubious of decisions in their showdown match against South Africa.

A Nigerian front four of Moses Simon, Kalechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen should cause too many problems in this second leg, with the hosts likely to be much more aggressive in approach this time around.

I think there is a gulf between the two teams, and as such, the even money available for NIGERIA TO WIN IN 90 MINUTES appeals greatly.

Score prediction: Nigeria 1-0 Ghana (Sky Bet odds: 10/3)

Odds correct at 1415 (28/03/22)

Senegal v Egypt (agg. 0-1)

We have a very realistic scenario that the 2022 FIFA World Cup could be without the winners of Euro 2020 and AFCON 2021.

Italy were knocked out by North Macedonia and so won't be appearing in Qatar, and Senegal find themselves 1-0 down heading into the second leg of their World Cup qualifier.

A very early own goal separated the sides in the first leg, with neither side impressing in a game that featured a total of 10 shots, and there is no reason to think this game will be any different, especially with Egypt in the ascendancy.

The Pharaohs are one of the best on the continent when they have a lead to protect, being organised excellently by coach Carlos Queiroz, so their set up here will be to frustrate Senegal and come away with a 0-0 draw in order to advance.

If Senegal were the ones leading, this game could play out in a hugely different way, but with Egypt in front, it will be a case of attack v defence, and the Egyptians have shown they are extremely capable at the latter.

They kept five clean sheets in seven AFCON matches on their way to the final, relying on their defence to advance, so UNDER 1.5 GOALS IN 90 MINUTES appeals in this second leg.

It is a bet that has landed in nine of their last 10 internationals, and it wouldn't at all be a surprise to see it land again here, with Egypt set to frustrate the African champions in a bid to hold onto their 1-0 aggregate advantage.

Score prediction: Senegal 0-0 Egypt (Sky Bet odds: 4/1)

Odds correct at 1415 (28/03/22)
