Match report

South Africa emphatically avenged last year's surprise Test defeat to Italy by claiming a 35-6 victory at the Stadio Plebiscito in Padua.

The Azzurri, who recorded their first ever win against the two-time world champions in Florence last November, took an early lead thanks to a Carlo Canna penalty, but the Springboks soon bit back.

Francois Louw, Bongi Mbonambi and Francois Venter all scored tries in the first half, with Handre Pollard converting them all to establish a daunting 15-point lead at the break.

Steven Kitshoff pushed the visitors further clear following the restart, Pollard converting yet again, while Franco Mostert ended any Italian dreams of a late recovery by dotting down at the death.

Elton Jantjies added those extras, with Italy's other points coming from a second Canna penalty.
