Jonny Lomax signs St Helens contract extension

England full-back Jonny Lomax has signed a new two-year deal that will keep him at St Helens until the end of the 2019 season.

The academy product made his first-team debut in 2009 but a series of injuries have limited the 26-year-old to 147 appearances for the club.

Despite his injury problems, Lomax broke into the England side last autumn and was an ever-present for Wayne Bennett's side in the Four Nations.

"Jonny is a classy player and I'm delighted he has committed his future to us," head coach Justin Holbrook told saintsrlfc.com.

"He is integral to the squad and not only offers us versatility and quality but is an example to the younger players coming through the system."

Lomax has scored twice in eight appearances this season, including the try that helped Saints level the match in their remarkable 25-24 win over Salford last Friday.

"I have grown up loving and supporting the club," said Lomax.

"At heart I am a fan of the Saints and want the best for the club in every way possible.

"I am delighted and hopefully I can do some good things over the next two years.

"I was aware that there was other interest in me but the club is always at the centre of my heart and has supported me through long periods of injury in recent years."
