Holders Hull draw Catalan Dragons in Challenge Cup

Hull will launch their defence of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup against Super League rivals Catalans Dragons next month.

The Black and Whites, who ended their wait for a first Wembley triumph with a 12-10 win over Warrington in the 2016 final, will have home advantage in one of three all-Super League ties to be played over the weekend of May 13-14.

Warrington face a derby fixture with Widnes at the Halliwell-Jones Stadium while St Helens, five-time winners since the turn of the century, will travel to current Super League leaders Castleford, who last won the cup in 1986.

Championship part-timers Swinton's reward for their 26-24 victory over Super League club Huddersfield is a lucrative tie with reigning champions Wigan, who hold the record for most Challenge Cup wins with 19.

Current Wigan captain Sean O'Loughlin was a tryscorer when the teams last met in the competition, Swinton going down 70-12 in the 2003 quarter-finals.

Leeds, back-to-back winners in 2014 and 2015 who beat Doncaster in the last round, will again face League 1 opponents in Barrow, the lowest-ranked team in the last 16.

Elsewhere in the draw - made by former Cup winners Keith Senior and Chris Joynt - there is a repeat of the 2016 Million Pound Game only Salford will this time have home advantage against Hull KR, while Wakefield face a trip to Championship club Dewsbury, with whom they could be ground sharing in 2018.

One Championship club is guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals, with Featherstone hosting Halifax.

Castleford captain Michael Shenton, who led his team out at Wembley in 2014 when they lost 23-10 to Leeds, believes his side could not have had a more difficult draw.

"I think we've drawn the toughest tie," Shenton told BBC Radio Leeds. "It's a bonus that we're at home but it doesn't get much tougher than St Helens.

"We've a couple of really important games before that but the Challenge Cup is a big goal of ours this year and it will be a massive focus for us.

"We've been there and know how special it can be. It makes you hungry for more. It's an exciting challenge, we'll definitely be up for it.

"It's the most mouth-watering clash of the round, there will be a few happy teams out there, looking at that draw.

Leeds Rhinos prop Brad Singleton admits he is excited about the chance to take on his home town club after the Rhinos were drawn at home to Barrow Raiders.

Singleton joined the Rhinos from Barrow Island amateur club in 2009 and regularly goes back to his parent's home in the Cumbrian town.

"I was sat watching the draw live on the television with a friend from Barrow and my partner, who is also from Barrow," he said.

"We were joking beforehand how good it would be to get Barrow, so I am delighted to have got my home town in the draw. We can't afford to take them lightly, they are unbeaten in Championship One so far this season and, like Toronto, they have been chewing up the opposition so far.

"I am sure the town will be buzzing after the draw. I remember when I was a kid we drew Wigan at home at Craven Park and everyone was talking about it for weeks in the build up to the match. The whole town will get behind the team, just like they get behind the football team for a big FA Cup match.

"We will need to prepare for this like we do for a Super League game, a top clash in Super League at that, because the Barrow players will be coming here looking to play the best 80 minutes of their lives and we have to keep that in mind."

Challenge Cup sixth round draw
Leeds v Barrow
Salford v Hull KR
Castleford v St Helens
Featherstone v Halifax
Hull v Catalans Dragons
Dewsbury v Wakefield
Swinton v Wigan
Warrington v Widnes

Ties to be played on the weekend of May 13.
