Paddy Flynn signs a pro deal with Sheffield Eagles

Former Widnes winger Paddy Flynn is returning to professional rugby league after signing a short-term deal with Championship club Sheffield Eagles.

Flynn, who made 168 appearances for the Vikings and had a loan spell with Castleford in 2016, was released at the end of last season and left the full-time game to pursue a career in plumbing.

However, he continued to play at amateur level with St Helens club Thatto Heath and has now joined the relegation-threatened Eagles until the end of the season.

"Not only has he got the experience but he has also scored tries at Super League level as well," said Sheffield coach Mark Aston.

"He's scored something like 108 tries in 180 games so he is a proven try scorer. He has got a bit of versatility in him. He can play full-back, he can play wing and he can play at centre."
