13:40 Cork

Kargese is a warm favourite on her chase debut and is officially 12lb superior over hurdles to main rival KALA CONTI, but that is due to their differing fortunes in the spring. Kargese was rated 142 when winning the County Hurdle, and Kala Conti was raised to 145 when an excellent second to July Flower at Christmas.

The latter, like many of Gordon Elliott’s, flopped at Cheltenham, but bounced back to her best when making an impressive chase debut over 2m5f here a fortnight ago, where she had Kargese’s stablemate Jade de Grugy back in third.

The drop in trip shouldn’t be a major concern and her stable is hitting the target with regularity. I think Kala Conti is much better than she showed at Cheltenham and Fairyhouse in the spring and that she has plenty more to offer.

She has a fitness edge on Kargese here, and while that mare will be hard to beat if translating her hurdles form to fences at the first time of asking, she is inclined to take a grip and could be vulnerable first time up having been beaten on her reappearance (albeit running well) for the past two seasons.

14:50 Cork

FOUND A FIFTY is taken to give Gordon Elliott a black-type double on the Cork card.

A top-class novice, he beat Solness conceding that smart rival 7lb a year ago and was found to be amiss when disappointing at Christmas. He bounced back to form when winning on his final start and looked as good as ever when beating Dinoblue 5 lengths in the Fortria after an odd experiment over 3m at Down Royal.

The key to Found A Fifty is that he’s a grinder at this trip and needs soft or heavy ground to slow his rivals down, and he has ideal conditions here, whereas testing ground is a known negative for Banbridge and an unknown for Majborough over fences (won the Triumph in the mud), where his jumping has raised justifiable criticism.

Majborough may be the class act here, but he can’t afford to make the mistakes he did in the Arkle if he’s to fulfil his potential and he could be vulnerable to a race-fit Found A Fifty now.
