The opening day of the Fed Cup clash between USA and the Czech Republic ended all square at 1-1.
Coco Vanderweghe got the hosts off to a good start in Tampa with a 6-1 6-4 victory over teenager Marketa Vondrousova.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated Viktorija Golubic in three sets to take the opening rubber for the home side but Timea Backsinszky restored parity with a 6-4 7-5 success over Aryna Sabalenka.
