Judd Trump will play John Higgins in the quarter-finals of the China Championship

JJudd Trump set up a quarter-finals clash with John Higgins when easing past Yan Bingtao in the third round of the China Championship.

The world number five cruised past Jamie Jones in the previous round and turned in another polished display on Thursday, giving Bingtao little chance as he recorded a 5-1 victory.

A run of 51 got Trump off to the perfect start and though Bingtao pinched the second frame to level the scores, breaks of 83 and a magnificent 111 put the Englishman 3-1 in front as the players left for the mid-session interval.

The 19 points Bingtao claimed in frame five were to be his last of the match as Trump dominated that frame before wrapping up proceedings with breaks of 55 and 56 in frame six.

Trump will face his World Championship conqueror, Higgins, in the quarter-finals after the Scot got the better of Scott Donaldson 5-3.

As in the previous round, Higgins wasn't quite at his best but breaks of 51, 53 and 52 ensured he was always in control.

Current world champion Mark Williams saw his run come to an end when he lost 5-3 to Zhao Xintong while Shaun Murphy was another big-name casualty following his defeat to Lyu Haotian.

Despite facing a stern challenge from Hossein Vafaei, Mark Selby navigated safe passage through to the latter stages.

Selby is another who has yet to hit top gear but he still managed a top break of 108 in his 5-3 triumph and will face Yuan Sijun next after he beat Mark King 5-3.
