Sam Tomkins misses out on Nou Camp game between Catalans and Wigan

Catalans Dragons will be without former Wigan favourite Sam Tomkins for Saturday's ground-breaking Betfred Super League clash with the Warriors at Barcelona's Nou Camp.

Tomkins has played in all 14 league games since joining the Dragons from the Warriors after October's Grand Final but suffered a back spasm in their 62-6 Coral Challenge Cup win against Doncaster last Saturday.

Catalans coach Steve McNamara had planned to give his influential playmaker as long as possible to prove his fitness but on Thursday named his 19-man squad without the England international.

"If he's fit, he'll play, if he's not, then we'll find a different way," McNamara said in a press conference on Tuesday.

Tomkins, who began the season at full-back before switching to scrum-half in the absence of Matty Smith, is the club's leading scorer this year with 110 points from 47 goals and four tries.

The Catalans are still without former Wigan scrum-half Smith as he continues to recover from a bicep injury but winger Lewis Tierney and hooker Micky McIlorum will face their old club.

Wigan coach Adrian Lam has added former Catalans full-back Morgan Escare to his squad.
