18 top stables open doors for Newmarket Open Weekend


18 top stables will open their doors on day two of the the 32Red Newmarket Open Weekend and NOW’s Food and Drink Festival on 16-17 September.

Gold Cup hero Big Orange will be the star attraction at Michael Bell's yard while other stables open to the public include Charlie Appleby, Charlie Fellowes, David Simcock, Ed Dunlop, Lucua Cumani, Marco Botti, Roger Varian and James Fanshawe.

The Saturday afternoon entertainment takes place in the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Arena at the National Heritage Centre, including the Dodson & Horrell Historical Horse Displays and the Andrews Bowen Suffolk Punch Demonstration.

An action-packed Sunday starts on Warren Hill Gallops at 8am where fans can watch superstars Enable and Marsha put through their paces.

Sunday afternoon entertainments will take place in the new arena on the Severals and will feature the Waitrose Stable Staff Games, Stable Staff vs Martin Collins Jockeys & Trainers Football Match, and Clipper Logistics Racing Personality Show Jumping Competition.

ITV’s Oli Bell will captain the football jockeys & trainers team, with trainer Charlie Fellowes in goal and jockey Ryan Tate playing up front.

Debut competitors in the show jumping include Silvestre de Sousa, Josephine Gordon, James Doyle, and the ITV duo of Francesca Cumani and Jason Weaver.

The Food & Drink Festival will be located right in the heart of the action at the National Heritage Centre, hosting over 40 bespoke stalls. Improve your own cooking skills with tips from celebrity chefs Sophie Grigson (Saturday) and Theo Randall (Sunday).

Funds raised go to Racing Welfare’s Newmarket Housing Project (80%), the Newmarket Day Centre (10%), and Newmarket Academy’s Social Mobility Fund (10%).

Tickets can be purchased on the day from any of the equine sites open (£5pp for Saturday only and £15pp for Sunday only). Kids U18 go FREE all weekend.
