Storm Doris strikes at Huntingdon as meeting abandoned

This afternoon's meeting at Huntingdon has been abandoned "due to health and safety concerns" after Storm Doris hit the Cambridgeshire circuit.

The track has been lashed by gale-force winds, which were considered severe enough to cause the cancellation of the National Hunt fixture.

Clerk of the course Jack Pryor said: "We were absolutely fine this morning. We had steady gusts of 25 miles per hour and there were no problems.

"But the wind has really picked up and we have got to nearly 50 mph.

"The wind has knocked over some wings on the chase fences and some of the hurdles, but there were also concerns about public safety as branches have fallen out of some trees on walkways."
