The pair should have it to themselves on ratings, although neither looks absolutely bombproof – Golden Pal was overhauled close home in the Coventry two years and did his running too early when only fifth in last season’s Nunthorpe, while Nature Strip’s very best form is over 6f. Golden Pal’s blast-and-blitz style could tip the scales in favour of the Aussie raider.
In a race lacking each-way appeal as a punting medium, LAZULI is worth a small-stakes play in the four and five-place markets. A headstrong sort, the Godolphin second string should relish this speed test. He’ll get the perfect tow from Golden Pal, who’s drawn two doors down, and produced a career-best when landing a fast-ground Palace House last spring on the back of a similar break to which he returns from here following a Group 2 win at Meydan.
