There was ecstasy and, to a lesser degree, agony for Value Bet followers on Saturday as Justanotherbottle almost completed a magnificent 442/1 double for Ben Linfoot’s popular column on Saturday.
The day began extremely well for Sporting Life readers as Ben’s nap of the day Viscount Barfield, tipped at 16/1, ground out victory in the valuable seven-furlong JCB Handicap, after being backed into an SP of 11/1.
The dream double looked very much alive when second and final selection Justanotherbottle, recommended each way at 25/1, hit the front with a furlong and a half to travel in the Catherine Kinloch Paver Memorial Macmillan Charity Handicap.
He skipped a couple of lengths clear and momentarily appeared to have the day's feature race sewn up, only for Golden Apollo and The Wagon Wheel to sail past in the final strides.
The gallant Justanotherbottle held on bravely for third meaning Ben’s column returned a very impressive 21.25 points of profit, while The Wagon Wheel (each way) featured among Matt Brocklebank’s best bets for Saturday and his preview also produced a profit of 3.25pts.
