Inexes is No 1 again at Hamilton

Inexes repeated last year's success with a game performance in the Weatherbys Printing Services Handicap at Hamilton om Wednesday.

Barry McHugh made a race-winning move when he decided to track the pacesetting Honeysuckle Lil while the three other runners stuck more to the far side.

Once past the front-runner, the Marjorie Fife-trained Inexes (3/1) got on top close home to score by three-quarters of a length and register back-to-back triumphs in the six-furlong dash.

"Plan A went out of the window after two furlongs," McHugh told Racing UK.

"I looked up and saw Rachel (Richardson on Honeysuckle Lil). She looked to be the best one travelling so I thought I'd tag on to her.

"He didn't do a lot when he got there. I had to make his mind up.

"I was maybe four or five lengths down when I made the move but I knew I had the horse and that he'd stay well. He needs something to aim at and lucky enough I was able to do that."

Gulf Of Poets returned after a seven-week absence to complete a hat-trick in the Weatherbys Printing Services Handicap.

The Mick Easterby-trained five-year-old's winning spree began at Pontefract and Wolverhampton in April and his break showed he was still in good form as kept up the gallop for 3lb claimer Nathan Evans to score by a length and a quarter from Fivehundredmiles.

The latter's trainer, County Kilkenny-based Pat Shanahan, struck with Souls In The Wind (6/4) in the Neilisland and Earnock Julian Watson Memorial Maiden Stakes under Tadhg O'Shea.

There was a second Irish winner when Mistiness (15/8) came from last to first under 3lb claimer Robbie Downey to follow up last week's Fairyhouse victory with a seven-length romp in the Hamilton Park Supporting Racing To School Handicap for County Meath handler Keith Clarke.

However, Downey received a four-day ban for using his whip above the permitted level. He is suspended from June 25-28.
