Messire Des Obeaux was the star of the show as columnist Daryl Jacob booted home five fabulous winners on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday was a great day but I don't know if any of the rides were that exceptional to be honest, it's pretty much all part of the day job. I was just lucky enough to finish in front five times!
In all seriousness, it’s a nice feat – five winners for five different trainers and lovely horses - and Messire Des Obeaux was fantastic.
To win a Grade Two with him, after the injuries that he's had, is brilliant. And for him to just show the same sort of ability - and to really want it after everything he's been through - was class.
I was very pleased and it was a brilliant training performance from Alan (King) and his team. Please God, he's now able to stay sound as he's won his handicap, won a Grade Two and we can potentially look at Grade Ones for him now.
If he stays sound he's a very exciting horse for us. He was one of the first good horses I had for Simon and Isaac and I believed he could take us right to the very top, so it's great to have him back.
I think he'll stay three miles but he's got that class and natural speed too. He won't be going to Cheltenham - not with his legs - but we've got options elsewhere on flatter tracks. That's the right thing to do by the horse.
Capeland ended up winning the handicap chase quite well but it wasn't all straightforward.
It was a spare ride and Paul (Nicholls) text me just on Saturday lunch time and said he might have a nice spare for him and was I interested.
I said of course I'd love to ride and fair play to Paul, he just said to ride your own race, ride him how you feel, and to be fair it worked out really well for the horse on the day.
You ride any horse for Paul Nicholls around Wincanton you know they've got a chance - no matter what they are - so that was great.
Ede'iffs Elton won the novices' handicap chase for trainer Robert Walford and me and Rob go back a long way with the boss Robert Alner, who would have been really proud yesterday. Wincanton is their local track and I'm sure the boss was looking down on us as it would have meant an awful lot.
I’ve had a few four-timers when I was riding for the boss and Sally Alner point-to-pointing. They were always very good days, and days I will never forget. They were the grass roots.
The boss would have been looking down yesterday and he would have been very proud of me – especially being at his local track as well.
Jackson Hill somehow won the last and it was also great to have another Saturday winner for Ben Pauling through Anightinlambourn, who was really good on the day and won pretty tidily in the end.
