Catching Pigeons gossip column for the weekend

Our top gossip column is back and expecting another super Saturday for William Buick on the Newmarket July Course.

1.40 Newmarket - Looktotherainbow

William Buick won four races at Newmarket last weekend and can continue where he left off with Looktotherainbow in the opening Betway Newcomers Maiden Fillies Stakes at Headquarters on Saturday.

Charlie Appleby thinks quite highly of this daughter of Dubawi, who is a half sister Richard Fahey's top-class performer Ribchester, and she has been working very well in the build-up.

2.50 Newmarket - High Peak

9/5

Buick has plenty of other good rides and it would come as no surprise to see High Peak run a big race in the Betway Nursery. He has not seen action since winning a Thirsk novice just over seven weeks ago but the form of that race looks pretty solid and he is reported in good form.

3.35 Ascot - Caradoc

Age: 5|  Weight: 9-6| J: D Tudhope| T: E Walker| OR:  99| BF
4/1

Caradoc looks worth another chance in the Thames Hospice Handicap over a mile-and-a-half at Ascot. The Ed Walker team had hopes of lifting the John Smith's Cup at York with the five-year-old last month but he ran a bit below par, due, perhaps, to having to come up the unfavoured far side in the straight.

Although his progressive profile took a bit of a dent on the Knavesmire, he takes in a less competitive event here and the step up to a longer trip may well suit. Ground conditions should also be to his liking.

1.50 Ascot - Chil Chil

Age: 4|  Weight: 8-13| J: Oisin Murphy| T: A M Balding| OR:  85| D
7/2

Chil Chil can step up on her promising comeback effort at Bath and beat fancied outsider Graceful Magic in the ITV Home Of Terrestrial Racing Handicap. The daughter of Exceed And Excel won three of her four races as a three-year-old and made a solid return when second at Bath last month. There seems no reason why she should not continue to progress this season and she looks less exposed than some of her rivals here.

2.25 Ascot - Via Serendipity

Age: 6|  Weight: 8-4| J: Hayley Turner| T: C Fellowes| OR:  83| CD
7/2

Via Serendipity can show his appreciation for a change of scenery with a big run in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Celebration Handicap. The six-year-old enjoyed a very good career with Stuart Williams but his turf career seems to have stalled. If new handler Charlie Fellowes can manage to re-ignite the spark on a course which seems to suit him he should go well on what appears to be an advantageous handicap mark.

12.40 Ascot - Spirit Mixer

Age: 2|  Weight: 9-5| J: Oisin Murphy| T: A M Balding| OR:  -
7/2

Spirit Mixer should go well on his debut in the Berkshire Community Foundation 'Newcomers' Maiden Stakes. By the mighty Frankel out of the only horse to beat Golden Horn on home soil, Arabian Queen, he can prove a valuable asset for Jeff Smith and Andrew Balding moving forward. His work at home has been very encouraging on that score.

4.45 Ascot - Kick On Kick On

Age: 5|  Weight: 9-4| J: S Donohoe| T: Ian Williams| OR:  77| D
16/1

It may pay to take a chance on Kick On Kick On in the Sportsable Handicap. Although his career with Ian Williams has been a little disappointing, he has shown glimpses of the previous form with Clive Cox and his latest trainer is just the man to find the key to getting him back on course.

He is fitted with cheekpieces here in an attempt to re-enliven him and looks an each-way shout off a mark 19lbs lower than his career high.

5.00 Uttoxeter - Henrietta Bell

Henrietta Bell29
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-12| J: G Sheehan| T: H Whittington| OR:  120| C
5/1

Henrietta Bell is on great terms with herself after her comeback run at Market Rasen and can break her duck for the season in the Follow At The Races On Twitter Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter.

Thought to be in need of the run at the Lincolnshire course, she will not only benefit from the outing fitness-wise, but will have learned plenty for what was her first outing over fences. This looks a much less formidable task and she is sure to give likely favourite Poker School plenty to think about.

3.25 Salisbury (Sunday) - Positive

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-10| J: Hector Crouch| T: C G Cox| OR:  110| C
6/1

Clive Cox will have his main attention on well-fancied and well-drawn stable star Golden Horde in the Group 1 Prix Maurice De Gheest at Deauville on Sunday but hopes are high Positive can return to form in the Group Three AJN Steelstock Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury.

A high class juvenile last term - he beat QIPCO 2000 Guineas winner Kameko at Sandown - he wears blinkers for the first time here and worked very well in the headgear at home. He is expected to build on his two outings so far this term in a race his trainer has won in the past.
