Gordon Elliott Ayr runners in isolation yard

Gordon Elliott has confirmed it's "business as usual" for his yard despite having runners at Ayr on Wednesday.

Racing in Britain has been cancelled today after the Animal Health Trust confirmed three positives tests for equine flu from vaccinated horses in an active racing yard.

In a statement, the BHA reported horses from the infected yard raced on Wednesday at Ayr and Ludlow, adding identification of the virus in vaccinated animals presented a "cause for significant concern".

However Elliott was able to put his Wednesday runners in an isolation yard before they returned to his base.

Talking on his Betfair blog he said: "The horses we ran at Ayr yesterday never came back to our yard and instead went to a non-racing isolation yard that is about twenty five minutes away from where we are based.

“We’ve been told that the chances of this effecting our runners from yesterday is very remote but we can’t take any chances whatsoever and those horses that went to Ayr will be quarantined as long as they have to be.

“Hopefully everything will get back to normal in Britain as quickly as possible but from our point of view it’s business as usual and we’re sending seven horses to Thurles today."
